Barcelona Monument a Colom

Barcelona Monument a Colom
Inspired by Nelson's Column, and complete with eight majestic lions, the Christopher Columbus monument was designed for the Universal Exhibition of 1888. Positioned at the base of La Rambla, the monument allegedly marks the spot where Columbus docked in 1493 after his discovery of the Americas, and the carvings illustrate key moments in his voyages. Columbus's white hair comes courtesy of the city pigeons so take appropriate cover if you decide to take the tiny lift up inside the column to the vertiginous viewing platform.
